HOW TO HANG A DOOR WREATH {without nails}

I love wreaths. It's a simple way to dress up a door and can be super personal and unique. When I don't have a wreath up, lots of people can't find my house.

Right now our door has a very kid-friendly plastic Halloween sign on it. The kids think it's pretty awesome! (Thank you Grandma.)

After Halloween, we'll be back to wreaths. So I have a secret trick to share with you.

I have used 3M hooks on the OUTSIDE of my door long enough to know that it does not work. Maybe it will work if you don't have a lot of humidity (hello, I live in Oregon) or if you don't get direct melting heat on your door (yes, I'm talking to you Mr. Sun).

Both humidity and hot sun make the sticky 3M hook fall off. You've been warned.

If this isn't enough to convince you to not hang your wreaths (on the outside) with 3M hooks, then at least don't hang anything of huge value with one (inside or outside). I have a large clock...long gone to the use of the double-duty-hold-lots-of-weigh-nail-head-3M-hook. Gone. Fell off the wall and broke right at the beginning of a party last year.

On the flip side, I do like 3M hooks and they are all over my house. The velcro-like ones are great to keep pictures from wiggling on the bottom.

So in my search for a solution to hang my wreaths, without putting a nail in my door, I thought, "why not a hook on the backside of the door?"

Genius. It has worked great and not fallen off.

1. Place your hook upside down on the top of your door.

2. Measure your ribbon/twine/etc to be the right length to hold your wreath AND go over the door. Please don't put it way at the top of your door OR in the middle. I think the middle door wreaths drive me crazy the most.

3. Secure your ribbon on the hook. Enjoy your wreath!

And I hope people can find your house easily now. :)

  1. Love this! The house that we moved into has a screw right in the center of the door... so I guess that we will just use that for now... I need to find a wreath for every season now though!

    1. That's very convenient! I recently picked up the boxwood wreath from Target. It's leaves are thick enough that I can slide in eggs on a stick for Easter, hearts for Valentine's Day, etc. I'm excited!

  2. Thank you, thank you, thank you ! I was stumped as to how to hang a wreath from my new fiberglass door and you have brilliantly solved my problem! Merry Christmas !

    1. I'm so glad this worked for you! Happy holidays!!

  3. This is genius! I just had new, smooth front doors installed last summer, smooth just for the reason of having my door décor hang flat but how to hang w/o a nail? The Command held all winter & fell off in the spring! I just tried your inside idea! Thank you!!!

    1. Yay! I'm so glad that it worked for you. Mine has stayed on for a long long time now. :)

  4. Turn it around and you can hang on inside too...

  5. More importantly...where did you get the wreath from these pictures? It's beautiful!

I love to hear your feedback.
